Newton Steller In Return

Brenden Newton was back between the pipes after a 7 game absence and looked as good as I have ever seen him in last night's game against the Estevan Bruins.

Newton kept his team in it  and did everything he could to steal the game, but the Bruins would not be denied in a 4-3 OT victory.

Nick Shumlanski also made his return to the lineup last night and opened up the scoring when he re-directed a puck over the shoulder of Maxim Sidelnik for his 6th of the season.

Witzke and Miller both responded  and put the Bruins up 2-1 after 1.

The Bombers came out in the second and played their best period of the night and scored two quick goals before the period was 6 minutes old.

Lanfermann scored his 5th of the year on the power play when he converted a nice pass from Caleb Moretz, and Isaac Jackson scored his first of the season when he snuck a low shot through traffic from the point to put the Bombers up 3-2.

Estevan repsonded late in the period when Jake Fletcher pounced on a rebound in front of the Bomber net to even things at 3.

The Bruins poured it on in the third period out shooting the Bombers 22-11, but they could not get a puck past Newton who made several big saves and was able to get the game to extra time.

It looked like we were headed to the shoot out but with 26 seconds left in OT, Arthur Miller was left all alone in front of the Bomber net and he scored his second of the game with a nice shot just underneath the bar.

A great effort from the Bombers and their goaltender Brenden Newton who was the best player on the ice this night, as they would get rewarded with 1 point.

Final shots were 48-43 in favour of the Bruins.

A big win for Estevan who leap frogged Weyburn with the victory and now have 27 points on the season to lead the Viterra Division. The Bruins got some help from Kindersley last night who downed the Wings 3-2.

The Bombers will slip to 7-9-1-3 and sit third in the Sherwood with 18 points. Flin Flon won't play again til Tuesday when they will host the Melfort Mustangs at the Whitney Forum.

This will be the third meeting of the year and the Bombers have played the league leaders well with a win at home and a 1 goal loss on the road. Game time is 7:30 and no broadcast of this game.

Our next broadcast is a week from today in Nipawin, when Flin Flon will make their first trip to the Cage this season with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and play by play at 7:30.
