Kodiaks Season Comes To An End

The Creighton Kodiaks 6 man football team saw their season come to an end this weekend in Wakaw with a 77-44 loss to the undefeated Warriors in provincial quater final play.

Creighton scored first when Shawn Francois scored on a 70 yard run to open up the game on the first play from scrimmage. Wakaw shook off the early Creighton touchdown and went on to score 46 points to jump out 46-8 after one quarter.

The Kodiaks would cut it to 54-22 at the half on another td run from Francois and a kickoff return td for Noah Dickens.

Despite the lop sided score at the half, Creighton kept battling all afternoon and were able to convert a couple of nice td passes from Bailey Eastman to Linden Moore of 15 and 50 yards.

Francois would add his third td of the day in the fourth quarter and Blake Alexander made good on three converts to complete the scoring.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk had this to say after Saturday's game. " We knew we were coming into a tough game in Wakaw, they were the no.1 seed in the whole six man provincials, so we knew it was going to be tough. I am proud of the guys, we scored first,  put up 44 points and had a lot of good moments in that game. Some of our seniors who played their last games  all played well. Some sad moments when your grade 12's play their last game, but they realized how good they played. They put it all out there and I couldn't of asked more from my team playing a good team like that."

Creighton will finish the season at 4-3 and will have 4 players who will be graduating later this year including quaterback Bailey Eastman, running back Shawn Francois and receivers Linden Moore and Dimitri Morin.

There are 4 teams remaining in the hunt for a provincial title, with the semi finals going next Saturday.

Rhostern who beat Cumberland will travel to Clavet and Wakaw will host Dalmeny.

Ryan Karakochuk will be in the 102.9 CFAR studio on Tuesday at 3:30 for a final interview on the season. Congratulations to the Kodiaks on a very entertaining season.
