Bombs Away

An offensive explosion saw the Flin Flon Bombers score a season high 7 goals en route to a 7-0 victory over the Melville Millionaires Saturday night at the Whitney Forum.

Jordan McCausland scored his first of the season just 7:44 into the opening period and that ended up being the only offense the Bombers would need in picking up their fourth win of the year.

Crystopher Collin continued his hot pace and scored his team leading 8th of the year to make it  2-0  Flin Flon after 1.

The Bombers took control and scored 4 more in the second courtesy of Lanferman (2), Martin (1),Moretz(3) and Nyman(2). Nick Shumlanski put the icing on the cake with his second of the year just

47 seconds into the final period. A career night for captain Ben Lanferman who had the first 4 point game of his career.

Brenden Newton had one of his more easier nights for his first shut out of the season and only had to make 23 saves with most shots kept to the outside. The Melville tandem of King and Entz were far busier  with 44 shots fired at them including 25 in the second period.

King started and was pulled after the third Bomber goal making way for Colby Entz who came in played well doing everything he could do to keep his team in it. Special teams were huge with the Bombers going 3 for 7 on the PP, while Melville was 0 for 7 including a 5 on 3 and 5 minute major advantage.

The Mills continue to struggle to score and have managed only  13 goals in their first 6 games. Even with a very young lineup the Bombers are getting the job done and have scored 26 goals in 7 games and Saturday's contest should give them more confidence.

A good weekend for Flin Flon who came from behind to beat Melville 5-2 on Friday and now sit with a record of: 4-1-0-2 and their 10 points has them sitting second in the Sherwood Division. That is 2 up on Nipawin and 6 points behind division leading Melfort.

Melville will slip to 1-5-0-1 and sit in the basement of the Viterra division with only 3 points. The Mills finish up the road trip in Laronge on Sunday.

Next up for the Bombers will be the Kindersley Klippers who come to town next weekend for games Friday and Saturday. Word is the Klippers are a much improved team and should be a good test for Flin Flon before they get set for their first big road trip of the year the following week.

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the broadcast of Saturday's game including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and play by play at 7:30.
