Bombers Moving On

It wasn't easy but the Flin Flon Bombers are moving on to the SJHL Semi- Finals after beating Notre Dame 2-1 Friday night to take the best of 7 Quarter Final 4 games to 1.

The Bombers came out flying in the first period and scored two quick goals from Brody Madarash and Greyson Reitmeier on the power play, to jump out 2-0 before the game was even 9 minutes old.

For Madarash it was his first ever playoff goal and had to be a thrill for his  dad Tim who was in attendance and is a former Bomber who is the all time  franchise leader in games, goals and points.

Madarash was able to grab a rebound in front of the Hound net and tuck a back hand under a fallen Benjamin Patt to send the home town crowd into a frenzy.

It looked like to me the Bombers would blow the doors off the Hounds but Benjamin Patt was able to make a number of big saves and no question was the reason Notre Dame was able to stay in the game.

The Hounds found the back of the net late in the first period when Ben Duperreault scored his 7th of the post season with a perfect wrist shot off the post with just over 3 minutes remaining in the first to get Notre Dame back in the contest.

The 2-1 Bomber lead would hold up for the rest of the game as both goalies went to work and wound up being big stories from game 5.

Patt was incredible and did everything he could to give his team a chance to steal game 5 at the Whitney. Patt ended up stopping 39 out of 41 shots and made a number of big saves on a Bomber 5 on 3 late in the second period and also came up big a number of times in the third.

Zac Robidoux wasn't as busy stopping 20 out of 21 shots but came up big when he had to and had very good rebound control and looked as confident and poised as I have ever seen him look. You can tell he has played in a lot of big games.

I would like to congratulate Notre Dame on a hard fought series and was impressed how they came to play each game with the youngest team in the league. Flin Flon is a lot older and experienced, but the Hounds were not intimidated and gave it everything they had.

The Bombers will get a 6 day rest before opening up their SJHL Semi- Final with Nipawin at the Whitney Forum Friday March the 31st.

Flin Flon took 7 out of 8 from the Hawks in the head to head meetings including back to back shut outs to close out the regular season. We will have a preview of the Semi-Final and a complete schedule of the games later in the week.
