Bombers Slip Past Wolves 4-3

One night after shallacking the Laronge Ice Wolves 11-0 at the Whitney Forum, for Hockey Night In Flin Flon, the same two teams were at it in Laronge for the rematch Saturday night.

This time it was a lot tighter affair with the Bombers pulling out a 4-3 win. It looked like the Bombers might blow the doors off for the secondt straight night building up a 3-0 lead after one on goals from St.Onge (20), Beebe (4) and Etter (7).

Laronge responded with a good second period and cut the deficit to 3-2 after 2 on goals from Hanson(1) and Peck(8).

Rylee Zimmer who just nicely got back in the lineup scored a big insurance goal early in the third, on the power play to put the B'S back on top 4-2. It was Zimmer's 18th of the season and stood up as the game winner, because Laronge would once again make it a 1 goal game when recently acquired Austin Shumlanski scored his second of the year with less than 6 minutes remaing in the third period.

Down 4-3 late, Laronge pressed but could not get the equalizer past Gunnar Neilson who stopped 35 out of 38 shots for his second win of the year in a Bomber uniform.

Laronge goaltender Luke Lush was spectacular stopping 57 out of 61 Bomber shots including 24 out of 27 in the first period.

Lush was hung out to dry many times the night before, but shook that off and really came out and competed hard for his team on Saturday and was the biggest reason they stayed in the game. He really should get some recognition for Goalie Of The Week for his gutsy performance.

After the weekend the Bomber record will improve to 34-12-2-3 good for 73 points, which is 4 up on Nipawin for tops in the Sherwood with the Hawks still enjoying 2 games in hand.

Battleford did the Bombers a favour beating Nipawin 4-2 on Saturday to snap the Hawks 13 game winning streak and give Flin Flon a little more breathing room atop the division.

The matchup that everyone has been waiting for is just a couple days away with the Hawks and Bombers colliding at the Whitney Forum this Tuesday. This will be the first meeting between these two teams since December the 3rd and Nipawin has a much different look to their lineup now.

The Bombers own the season series winning all 5 matchups and will have the tie breaker if these two teams are some how tied at the end of the year.

Hope to see you for what should be the most anticipated matchup so far of 2017 this Tuesday at the Whitney Forum, with puck drop at 7:30. No broadcast of this game but 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the rematch in Nipawin on Saturday night.
