Bombers Ready For Big Weekend

The Flin Flon Bombers will hit the road for three big games this weekend starting in Nipawin Friday night and a showdown for first place in the Sherwood Division.

Nipawin leads the Bombers by two points after a 4-1 win in Kindersley last night and also have a game in hand.

Flin Flon leads the season series 2-0 after back to back wins to open the season back in September. The Hawks are a lot different team since then and have won 11 of their last 14 games and are always tough at the Cage.

The Bombers need to get things going on the road and are just 2-6 compared to their 8-1-2-2 record at the Whitney Forum , and this has to be one of the main reasons they have been inconsistant so far this season. Their 73 goals against in 21 games are also a reason for concern and have them ranked 6th overall.

Nipawin have given up 33 less goals and have only played one fewer game. One of the biggest reasons has to be no.1 goalie Kristian Stead who is no question the league's best goaltender with a record of 9-5-1 and an almost lights out save % at .940.

The Hawks just got Declan Hobbs back from the WHL and it will be interesting to see how Doug Johnson is able to balance the crease,  as I can't see Stead wanting many nights off.

Things don't get any easier for the Bombers who move on to Humboldt to face the Broncos on Saturday who have the best home record in the league at 9-1-1. Humboldt beat Flin Flon 5-3 in their only meeting at the Elgar Petersen Arena back on  October the 12th.

The trip wraps up in Melville on Sunday with a 6PM faceoff time from the Horizon Credit Union Centre. After a slow start the Mills are pulling it together and are 6-4 in their last 10 and don't score lots but are very stingy in only  giving up  58 goals against in 21 games.

The Bombers took both games at the Whitney Forum back on September the 30th and October the 1st.

All three games will be  broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning from the Cage Friday including the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15.
