Bombers 6 Hounds 4

After an 8 day break the Flin Flon Bombers put together one of their best efforts so far this season, defeating a good Notre Dame team 6-4 Saturday at the Forum.

It took less than 4 minutes for the Bombers to hit the back of the net when Russell Manitoba's Rylee Zimmer scored his third of the year to put the Maroon and white up 1-0 early.

Less than 3 minutes later the SJHL'S leading scorer Ben Dupperreault tied the game with his 15th of the season re-directing a puck over the shoulder of Bomber netminder Brenden Newton.

Longjohn would get his first of the night when he was left alone in front of the Bomber net to tap in his 5th of the season.

The best story of the night was 19 year old Rylan Tkachuk finishing a nice pass from Tylar Miller to score his first ever SJHL goal and tie the game at 2 after 1. Tkachuk got mobbed by his team mates when he made his way back to the bench and had a smile on his face as big as all of out doors. His night was not done.

Longjohn would slide a weak shot past Newton just 10 seconds into the second to put Notre Dame up for the last time in the game 3-2.

Flin Flon seemed to flip a switch and put it into overdrive scoring 3 unanswered goals from Zimmer his second of the night and 4th of the season, Lavallee(9) and Beebee(2). Flin Flon would take a 5-3 lead into the final period.

The Hounds would once again make it a 1 goal game when Podgorenko scored on the powerplay just 4 minutes into the final frame. The Bombers answered that with a goal of their own when Tkachuk would pick up his second of the game finishing up a nice feed from Hooper to put Flin Flon up 6-4 and that is how the game would end.

This is one of those moments that makes you happy to be a fan. Rylan is one of the nicest kids you will ever meet and has worked very hard the past couple of seasons to get into the lineup and play everyday and has certainly been patient waiting for his time. This couldn't happen to a better kid and was awarded the first star of the game.

Tyler Nyman made his Bomber debut and he picked up an assist and looked right at home for his first game with his new team.

Final shots were 53-29 in favour of the Bombers with Flin Flon 0 for 5 on the pp and Notre Dame 1 for 3.

The Bombers improve to 10-7-2-2 and are tied with Nipawin for first in the Sherwood with Nipawin having 3 games in hand. These two teams will square off at the Cage on Friday night.

Flin Flon continues to be very good at home improving to 8-1-2-2, which is third best in the league behind only Battleford and Humboldt.

The road is a different story where the Bombers are 2-6 and will kick off a 3 game road trip on Friday against Nipawin, Humboldt and Melville. All 3 games broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
