Bombers Ready For Wings And Bruins

After a 5 day break the Bombers will hit the ice for a pair of games this weekend against two of the league's premiere clubs in  Estevan and Weyburn.

The Wings are here tonight and bring a 11-5-0-1 record to town including two wins against the Bombers so far this year including a 4-3 win at the Showcase,  and the Wings shut them out in Weyburn 5-0 a couple of weeks ago.

Weyburn and Estevan are tied  for first in the Vittera Division with 23 points and this will be Weyburn's first game in Flin Flon since the famous moose leg incident from last spring.

A lot has changed since then,  including Head Coach Bryce Thoma leaving for the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL and assistant coach Wes Rudy taking over the reigns. Weyburn also shored up their goaltending  picking up Nathan Hargrave in a trade with Kindersley.

Hargrave has been outstanding picking up 9 wins to go with a gaa of 2.41 and a save % of .922

He is tough to beat and considered one of the best goalies in the league.

Estevan may be the big surprise so far this year after hosting the Western Canada Cup in the spring and it looked like the Bruins may have to do a major rebuild.

Nothing could be further from the truith as head coach  Chris Lewgood has built a nice team with his carry over players from last year and some top notch rookies who are finding the back of the net.

The Bruins are second in the league with goals for with  69 in 15 games and are on a roll winning 8 of their last 10 games.

Flin Flon took all 4 meetings between the two teams last season, but the Bruins beat the Bombers 6-4 in Estevan on October the 13th in their only meeting so far this season.

This could be a good weekend for the Bombers confidence wise if they could pick up a couple of wins against these elite clubs.

The Bombers are 7-6-2-1 and are battling with Nipawin for first place in the Sherwood Division. The Hawks lead the Bombers by 1 point with 3 games in hand.

Offense has dropped down this year with the Bombers 6th in the league in goals for with 46 in 16 games. Their goals against may be more of a concern giving up 54 in  16 games.

Since starting the year at 6-0-1, the Bombers have only managed 1 win in their last 9 games but are coming off a 3 point weekend against Kindersley.

No broadcast against Weyburn tonight but we are back on the air Saturday against the Bruins with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and play by play at 7:30.
