Bombers Ready For Ice Wolves

The Flin Flon Bombers fresh off sweeping the Nipawin Hawks will host another division opponent toniight, welcoming the Laronge Ice Wolves to town.

This will be the first of a home and home at the Whitney Forum with puck drop tonight at 7:30. The rematch will take place at the Mel Hegland at 8pm MB time tomorrow.

The Bombers looked good  against the Hawks firing nearly 100 shots at the Hawks net in the two games and only giving up 3 goals including a shutout right in Nipawin.

Mike Reagan was very happy with their start after they opened up last season with a 2-10 record and got behind the 8-ball so early. These are always big games especially right in your own division.

The Bomber back end which features 7 returnees from last year's team looks to be what this group is building around and they are hard to play against. Not only are the Bombers getting a lot of shots, but they arn't giving up much either.

Flin Flon only allowed 18 shots in Nipawin Saturday and Brandon Newton hasn't had to face a lot of second shots and pretty much sees everything thrown in his direction.

Laronge comes to town reeling after a couple of setbacks against the Canalta Cup Champion Melfort Mustangs on opening weekend. Melfort out scored Laronge 12-2 on the weekend including a 7-0 blowout right in Laronge to open the season Friday.

Head Coach Shawn Martin has tweeked the lineup and the Wolves will welcome Tristan Elder back to the team. Elder was just released from the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL, and from what I have heard is happy to be back in the SJHL.

Laronge has also made a trade with Winkler of the MJHL, picking up 97 born forward Tayden Woods for 96 forward Tyler Picket and future considerations. Woods should be a good addition as he picked up 74 points in 52 games with the Castlegar Rebels of the KIJHL last season.

Both these new additions are expected to be in the Laronge lineup tonight.

This is one of the best rivalries in the league and I expect two very physical games with a great atmosphere in both buildings this weekend.

Flin Flon took 7 out of 8 meetings last year including 3 wins at the Mel. We will have the broadcast from Laronge on Saturday night starting with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:45 MB time.
