Mustangs 4 Bombers 2

The Melfort Mustangs are starting to get on a roll, and went into Flin Flon last night and picked up their 5th straight win and doubled up on the Flin Flon Bombers 4-2.

Dakota Boutin picked up the only goal in the first period, when he gobbled up a loose puck at his own blue line and raced down the ice to beat Zac Robidoux on a short handed break away to put Melfort up 1-0 after 1.

The Mustangs would add to their lead when they scored 2 more in the second on goals from Hanson and Warkentine to put Melfort up 3-0 after 2.

Flin Flon came out very strong in the third and got rewarded with a goal from Tyson Empey just 54 seconds in. The Bomber captain was able to grab a rebound off the boards behind the Mustang net and caught Richard Palmer, who was on the other side of the net.

The Bombers kept scratching and managed to get one more past Palmer with only 18 seconds left in the game when Shumlanski banged home his 10th of the season.

Right off the following face off, the Bombers got in deep and looked like they may tie it up, but veteran Justin Boyer was able to get hold of a loose puck and he shot it into the empty net for Melfort's 4th goal which sealed the deal.

Flin Flon loses at the Whitney Forum for just the third time since November the 27th, despite doubling the Mustangs in shots 50-29.

Richard Palmer was incredible all night and make no mistake about it, he was the difference in the game.

The Bombers have been running into a lot of hot goalies lately and have played well enough to win their last 3 including a tough 3-2 loss in Yorkton Tuesday.

After Saturday's set back the Bombers find themselves 7 points behind Melfort for first in the Sherwood, and just 1 point up on Nipawin for second. Estevan did the Bombers a favour beating the Hawks 5-3 on Saturday.

Nipawin will have a chance to leap frog the Bombers, as they wrap up a 3 game road trip in Notre Dame on Sunday.

Flin Flon has 7 games remaining in the season including 4 more at the Whitney Forum, and will enjoy a 6 day break before hosting Notre Dame on Saturday February the 20th.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Bomber organization for allowing me to be part of this great franchise the last 20 years and really appreciate their efforts in honoring me last night for my 1000th broadcast.

I have love'd every minute of it and would also like to thank all the fellow broadcaster's, coach's and teams  in our league and all the wonderful friends I have met along the way.

You all mean the world to me and from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for sharing this great moment with me.

Look forward to seeing you at more rinks throughout 2016.
