Back To Back Wins

After dropping 2 out of their last 3 games, the Flin Flon Bombers responded with back to back home wins over Humboldt and Kindersley.

Flin Flon took it to the Broncos 8-2 on Friday on the strength of the 4th line who combined for 12 points, 4 from Mich Foyle alone.

This was a big win for the Bombers,  as the Broncos have given them a lot of trouble this season. One of Humboldt's 2  road wins came at the expense of the Bombers earlier in the year and the season series ends 2-2.

The Bombers took over right from where they left off on Friday and doubled Kindersley 6-3 on Saturday.

Joel Kocur did a lot of the damage picking up the hat- trick to give him 33 goals on the season. Other goals came from Zimmer( 6), St.Onge (8) and Switzer (31).

Kocur's 33 goals have him ranked third in the league behind the Battleford's Leonenko who has 36, and Melfort's Travis Mayan who leads the league with 42.

Flin Flon built a 5-1 lead early in the third on Kindersley Saturday before Dexter Bricker decided to take a couple cheap shots on some Bomber players.  Adam Wilson responded on behalf of his team only to have Bricker back off and want no part of dropping his mitts.

This did lead to a  9 minute powerplay for Kindersley in which they did score a couple of power play goals to get back in the game 5-3, before the Bombers scored a late empty net goal to pick up their 29th victory of the season.

Brenden Newton was solid again stopping 33 out of 36 shots for his 13th win of the season. The most recent SJHL Rookie Of The Month is ranked third amongst SJHL goalies with a gaa of .240 and save % of .925.

After the weekend Flin Flon is 29-15-0-4 and they have a real battle going with Nipawin for second in the Sherwood and fourth overall. The Bombers lead the Hawks by 1 point and both teams have played 48 games. They will only play 1 more time this season and that is the last game of the season in Flin Flon March the 8th.

Wouldn't that be something if that ends up being the deciding game for home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

Melfort seem to be back on track and have reeled off 4 straight wins to stay 7 points up on Flin Flon for first in the division.

The Bombers hit the road for 2 games Tuesday and Wednesday in Yorkton and Melville and once again they will be facing 2 desperate hockey teams.

Yorkton holds the final overall playoff spot with 38 points, 8 up on Melville and 7 more than Humboldt, so a win over Flin Flon would go a long way.
