Close Call For Kodiaks

The Creighton Kodiaks travelled to Cumberland House and picked up a 60-50 victory and improved to 3-0 in the Northern Saskatchewan Football League.

The Kodiaks stormed out to a 50-12 half time lead and Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk put in his rookies to start the second half and give them some much needed playing time.

Cumberland House left their starters in were able to get a late rally going scoring 30 points in the last 5 minutes.

Kodiak touchdowns were scored by: Tyler Williamson and Chris Reynolds who both had 2. Single tds came from: Dean Rainville, Blair Pietsch, Jordan Panagabko and Brennen Van Meer.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk summed up the victory:

" I was very excited the way our team came out to start the game. We went 80 yards down the field to score the first touchdown and took 6 minutes off the clock. Our defense came on the field fired up and their first play was a big hit that forced a fumble, with Dean picking it up and running it in for another touchdown to make it 14-0. Our offense couldn't be stopped in the first half, we really dominated the line of scrimmage and that is as good as our offense have played all season."

The Kodiaks will return home to play their last regular season game this Thursday at the Creighton field when they will meet Churchill out of Laronge who are 3-1.

This game will determine first place in the division and a bye into the Northern Final with home field advantage.

Karakochuk expects this to be a very tough game with the Churchill program  playing in the Saskatchewan Provincial system the last couple of years, playing some very good competition including Shellbrook and Wawka.

Karakochuk also mentioned the Creighton fans will get their first taste of a team that is going to be of similar stature and size of the Kodiaks. Game time this Thursday at 4.
