Right Down To The Wire

It looks like it will go right down to the last game of the season for both the Flin Flon Bombers and Laronge Ice Wolves, who will play a home and home this weekend.

After a tough start to the month, the Bombers had a very successfull road trip where they beat both Melville and Yorkton. Flin Flon also made team history , by sweeping all 8 meetings against the Terriers and Mills for the first time in franchise history.

The Bomber record stands at: 5-3 in February, with only 3 games remaining in the season. After a 6 week layoff Adam Beukeboom is a nice story, where he was able to win both of his starts last weekend and picked up the SJHL goalie of the week by stopping 72 out of 74 shots.

Beukeboom has 4 shutouts so far this year, which is pretty impressive for starting only 13 games.

Flin Flon can still finish 4th, but would need to win all three of their remaining games, and Notre Dame would need to lose their last two. The Bombers and Hawks are neck and neck with 70 points each, and will meet the very last night of the season March the 3rd,  which will most likely decide 5th overall. Nipawin plays Melfort in a home and home this weekend.

Time may be running out on Laronge, who have put up a great fight down the stretch going 5-4-1 in their last ten. The Ice Wolves are 2 points behind Weyburn, for the final playoff spot,  with only two games remaining and would need to sweep Flin Flon this weekend. The Wings have three games left and only need to win one to clinch the last playoff spot.

Weyburn could still win the Viterra Division out right, as they are only 2 points Melville with a game in hand. The Division is very much up for grabs, with only 2 points separating first from third.

Melville and Estevan play a home and home this weekend, and Weyburn travels to Battleford and Kindersley.

Congratulations to Bomber forward Austin Evans who has committed to the Norwich University Cadets NCAA Division III Mens hockey team for the 2015-16 season. Austin went for a fly down last weekend to check things out. The Cadets play in the ECAC East and are currently ranked no.1 in the nation.

Both games against Laronge will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com this weekend, including tonight's  game from the Mel Hegland Uniplex.  We hit the air with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 6:45 and play by play at 7. Don't  forget tomorrow's game at the Whitney Forum will be at 6:30 to accomodate the awards banquet right after the game at the Legion Hall.
