Old Time Hockey

Hudbay Hockey Night In Flin Flon was a huge hit in front of a packed house at the Whitney Forum on Friday night. 1,547 fans got to enjoy some free hockey thanks to Hudbay.

The Bombers didn't disappoint by picking up a huge 5-2 victory at the expense of the Melville Millionares for their 8th straight win at home.

It felt like the good ol WCHL days with a full scale line brawl and a huge ruckus crowd. The only thing missing was the chicken wire instead of the plexy glass.

With the Bombers leading 4-2  late in the second period, all hell broke loose when Knaub got into it with Koopman in a scrom deep  in the Bomber end. Both these players decided to drop the mitts and get at er, which would spark 4 more fights with the likes of  Smith, Masson, Calladine and Bell.

As a result here are the suspensions:

The League suspends the following players for a multiple fight situation in a game between the Melville Millionaires and the Flin Flon Bombers.
Flin Flon Bombers #44 Branden Mason suspended for 1 game.
Flin Flon Bombers #20 Alex Smith, #3 Tyler Bell suspended for 2 games each.
Melville Millionaires #21 Brennen Miller suspended for 1 game.
Melville Millionaires #9 Dylan Ostertag, #27 Mark Zvonkovic 2 games each.
Each team has been fined an undisclosed amount of money for the multiple fight situation.
Also from the game between Melville Millionaires and Flin Flon Bombers #26 Braden Lacouisiere is suspended for 2 games under supplemental discipline.

It is to my understanding that the suspensions take affect a.s.a.p, so that means the Bombers will be down 3 defensemen for their game in Laronge on Wednesday. Masson will be back to face Nipawin on Friday with Bell and Lacouisiere back in the lineup Saturday.

Every win at this time of year is huge as the Bombers are battling for fourth overall with Nipawin and Notre Dame and a chance to have home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

After the weekend the Bombers are: 26-9-6-6- 64 points and are in a three way tie with the Hounds and

Hawks. Flin Flon has two games in hand on Nipawin and are even in games played with Notre Dame. The Bombers and Hawks square off in a home and home this weekend.

Flin Flon has been great since the Christmas break and are 9-2-1-2 in 2015 including a sensational 8-0 at the Whitney Forum. Chris Rauckman looks poised to become the Bombers first 40 goal scorer since Reid Macloud who had 47 back in the 2007-2008 season.

Rauckman scored twice on Friday to give him 35 in 47 games. Rauckman leads the league in goals and is tied with Owen Laclaire of Kindersley for second overall in points with 55.

It is a big week for the Bombers who will face three Sherwood opponents including Laronge Wednesday, and Nipawin Friday and Saturday. All three games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline. com.

Here is Friday's complete scoring summary:
