Come Back Falls Short

The Flin Flon Bombers spotted the Yorkton Terriers three goals on Saturday but managed to find their groove and came back to earn a point, losing 4 to 3 in OT.

Yorkton scored all three of their goals in the first period courtesy of Le Grandeur, Sare and leading scorer Chantz Petruic who collected his 14th.

Jacob Delorme was back between the pipes, making his first start since September the 24th and I thought looked a little rusty early on.

Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan decided to leave him in after a shaky first period and it proved to be a good decision as Delorme rebounded and started to look like his old self.

With Delorme making some timely saves,  the Bombers got on the board just 23 seconds into the second period when Easton Haygarth re-directed a Caleb Franklin shot through Yorkton goalie, Phillipe Bond's legs.

Reid Robertson was left all alone in front of the Yorkton net and he deposited his second of the year with a low wrist shot, to make t a one goal game after two.

Trailing 3 to 2 in the third , Donavan Houle got in alone and made a couple nice moves to beat Bond low stick side to tie the game.

This was Houle's league leading 15th of the year and is by far the most exciting player in the league that I have seen.

Flin Flon continued to pour on the pressure and dominated the third period and over time but couldn't get that fourth goal.

The Terriers were able to take advantage of an odd man rush and won the game when Ryan Ries used a bomber for a screen and beat Jacob Delorme low glove side for the 4 to 3 OT win.

The Bombers come home with two out of a possible six points and did play well in all three games and really should of won them all.

Flin Flon had Humboldt down 2 to 1 late on Thursday, with the Broncos scoring twice in the last two minutes to win 3 to 2. The Bombers also led Battleford 3 to 2 late on Friday with the Stars scoring late to tie it and eventually won it in over time.

After the weekend Flin Flon is 7-3-2 and sit third in the Sherwood Division with 16 points, two behind Nipawin and three points behind division leading Melfort.

Secondary scoring continues to be a concern with the Bombers scoring 8 goals in the three games and 5 came  from Donavan Houle himself.

Flin Flon continues to battle injuries with 4 regulars still out of the line up including forwards Tristan Lemyre, Matt Flodell new comer Ryan Moon and d-man Jack Michell.

Flodell is day to day with the the other three appearing tobe long term. The good news is forward Billy Klymchuk and goalie Jacob Delorme are both back.

The Bombers will return to the Whitney Forum this weekend with two games against Melville on parents weekend.
