Hawks Slip Past Bombers

It was one of the Bombers best efforts of the season, but they came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 score against the Nipawin Hawks.

Declan Hobbs was at his stingy best stopping 44 out of 46 Bomber shots and was without question the difference in the game.

Flin Flon peppered the Nipawin net in the final few minutes but couldn't get anything by the veteran puck stopper.

It looked like it might be the Bombers night as they led 2-1half way through  the third period on goals from Marchi (13) and Houle- Villeneuve (6), before Tremblay would tie the game on the power play with just under 7 minutes remaining.

Right off the faceoff, 17 seconds later,  the Hawks would get the eventual game winner racing down the ice with Girod firing a shot top right corner on Pierce Diamond.

Diamond stopped 26 out of 29 and suffered just his third loss of the season.

Hobbs did the rest stopping a barage of Bomber shots in the last  two minutes.

Nipawin has beaten the Bombers in all three meetings this season and has over taken Flin Flon for second spot in the Sherwood Division.

The Hawks improve to 16-8-0-1, while the Bombers fall to 15-7-0-2. Nipawin trail Melfort by 1 point for the division lead, while Flin Flon are 3 points back.

Despite the loss, Mike Reagan was happy with how his team played last night. " I told the boys don't hang your heads, that might be the best game we played all year. I loved the intensity, our work ethic and will to win. It is unfortunate we didn't come out with 2 points because we deserved better."

The Bomber home stand will continue against Notre Dame this Friday, with puck drop at 7:30.
