Bombers Blast The Wolves

The Flin Flon Bombers and their electrifying offense made their way to the Mel Hegland Uniplex in Laronge last night and found the back of the net several times in a convincing 9-2 victory.

Calvon Boots led the way with his first ever SJHL hat-trick, his 3rd,4th and 5th of the season. Bomber captain Nate Hooper kept up his hot streak adding his 11th and 12th with other goals from Franklin (3), Houle (5), Jackson (2) and Brandson Hein's league leading 23rd.

Ice Wolve goals came from Bannister (10) and Thackeray (3).

The turning point for me, was the Bombers killing an early 5 on 3 Laronge power play with Jacob Delorme making a number of big stops. The Wolves came up empty and didn't have a lot of energy after that.

Specialty teams were definately in Flin Flon's favour with the Maroon and White going 2 for 4 on the PP, and they also scored two short handed goals. Laronge was 0 for 7 including that big 5 on 3 early in the first period.

Jacob Delorme got the start,  and was rock solid making 28 saves on 30 shots and even got an assist on Brandson Hein's short handed goal.

It was a tough night for both Laronge goalies,  who didn't get a lot of support with Daniel Davidson getting the start, allowing 6 goals on 31 shots.

Jordan Frey came in relief and he was beat 3 times on 20 shots. Flin Flon fired 51 shots total and were peppering the Ice Wolf duo all night long.

With last night's 9 goals,  the Bombers are up to a whopping 99 on the season in just 21 games.

Flin Flon also leap frogs Nipawin for first place in the Sherwood Division at 14-5-0-2 with 30 points. That is good enough for second overall, just 2 points behind Humboldt.

Laronge has lost 6 in a row and remain dead last at : 6-17. They are 6 points out of a playoff spot.

Next up will be a trip to the Battlefords this Friday and Saturday for the first meetings of the season between these two teams. Battleford is a solid team at 12-6-1-3 and should be a good test for the Bombers.

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the call of both games starting with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 .
