Bombers Double The Bruins

The Flin Flon Bombers got back in the win column after a solid 4-2 win against the Estevan Bruins last night at the Whitney Forum.

The Bombers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one,  on goals from new comer Caleb Franklin and Crystopher Collin who seems to be getting into an offensive groove after a bit of a slow start  returning from major junior in Quebec.

Estevan got the only goal in the second when Cunningham beat Jacob Delorme late in the frame.

It looked like it could be another third period collapse, when Estevan came out flying in the third and got to within one when high flying forward Michael McChesney made it 3 to 2 with just under 3 minutes remaining in regulation.

Flin Flon didn't fold the tent this time and got a big insurance goal from Brandson Hein, who restored the two goal lead, just over a minute later to answer McChesney's goal. Hein continues to pile up the goals with his league leading 18th.

The Bombers skated to the 4-2 win and have beaten the struggling Bruins in both their meetings so far this season.

I thought it was a great goaltending battle and Jacob Delorme was dynamite in stopping 39 out of 42 Bruin shots. Not to be out done,  was Grant Boldt at the other end of the ice stopping 32 out of 36.

Specialty teams saw the Bombers go 1 for 3 on the PP, while the Bruins were 0 for 2.

Flin Flon will regain first place in the Sherwood Division at 10-5-0-2, 2 points up on the Hawks who have two games in hand.

Estevan slips to 7-9 and remain 3 points behind the Yorkton Terriers in the Viterra Division.

Next up for the Bombers will be the Weyburn Red Wings who will be in town tomorrow for a 7:30 start.
