Terriers Mount Third Period Come Back

It was the type of hockey everybody was expecting to see this weekend with no shortage of goals between the Yorkton Terriers and Flin Flon Bombers.

Flin Flon won a wild one, 7 to 5 on Friday almost blowing a 7-2 lead going into the third period. Yorkton made things very interesting including hitting three goal posts in the final frame.

Brandson Hein had another good night adding two more goals to give him a league leading 15 on the season.

The Bombers felt good going into the rematch on Saturday but this time could not hold on to a two goal lead going into the third period.

Flin Flon led 3 to 1 entering the third on goals from Hein(16), McKenzie (4) and Marchi (12) before the game would take a dramatic change.

The Terriers fired 21 shots at the Bomber net,  scoring four times before the mid way point of the period and were able to skate to a 5-4 victory.

Cody Bruchkowski led the way with a pair, his 6th and 7th of the year with other goals from Mullaney(1) and Hobbs(2). Legien scored his 14th back in the second.

Local product Jeremy Dutcawich started his first ever SJHL regular season game and played extremely well stopping 40 out of 45 Yorkton shots. I thought he made a number of big saves especially in the first period and looked poised and moved very well.

Ryan Oulette started just his fourth game of the year and made the saves he had to make in turning aside 26 out of 30 Bomber shots.

Specialty teams were big for both teams with the Bombers going 4 for 8 on the PP, while the Terriers were 2 for 8.

It was parents weekend and it was nice to see that almost all of the parents made it up North to cheer on their sons decked out in their Bomber gear and enjoying the best atmosphere in the league at the Whitney Forum.

Lsst night's loss stopped the Bombers point streak of at least 1 point in the last 6 games, but they still sit first in the Sherwood Division at 9-5-0-2. They have dropped to third overall with Kindersley and Humboldt both winning last night.

Yorkton continues to lead the Viterra Division at 8-5-1, with a 3 point lead on Estevan.

Flin Flon will continue their home stand this week with two games against Estevan on Wednesday and Weyburn on Friday. The Bruins have reeled off three straight wins while the Wings have lost six in a row.

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have Friday's game including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
