Bombers Start 2-0

It was a good start to the season for the Flin Flon Bombers who scored 15 goals in two games including an 8-5 win last night at the Whitney Forum.

The Bombers swept the home and home with the Laronge Ice Wolves and this looks like it will be a very entertaining year.

A number of Flin Flon  players had a very productive weekend.

Fresh off a 7-4 win in Laronge on Friday, over 1400 fans turned out to the Forum for the Bomber home opener last night.

The Ice Wolves scored first and silenced the big crowd when Jake Gudyonson fired a puck past Pierce Diamond.

The lead was short lived as Bomber captain Nate Hooper struck twice before the first period was complete and Flin Flon took a 2-1 lead to the locker room.

Caleb Moretz who was flying all over the ice made it 3-1 early in the second before Zach Bannister made it a one goal game with his second of the year just 4 minutes later.

With a 3-2 Bomber lead to begin the final period, the doors came completely off as the teams combined for 8 goals.

Donavan Houle scored two goals in the first 5 minutes as Flin Flon opened up a 5-2 lead and seemed to be off to the races.

Laronge never gave up though as Tanner Brewster converted a nice two on one pass from Austin Bill to get the Wolves back within two at 5 to 3.

Alec Cockly and Daylan Marchi quickly added goals to make it 7-3, but Laronge refused to go away and got within two once again on power play goals from Di Paolo and Mish.

Caleb Moretz would cap a great weekend for himself  scoring his second of the night into the empty net to send the Bombers to their second straight win 8 to 5.

Final powerplay saw the Bombers go 0 for 4 while the Wolves were 2 for 8.

A number of Bombers had mutiple point games including Brandson Heine who had 7 points in the two games with Nate Hooper and Calvon Boots collecting 6 and Donavan Houle picking up 5.

Pierce Diamond was back between the pipes picking up his second straight win making 24 saves on 29 shots while Jordan Frey started his first game stopping 48 out of 56 shots. Frey was the Wolves best player and made a lot of remarkible saves to keep his team in it.

I predict a bright future for the 18 year old out of Saskatoon.

Flin Flon will now enjoy a 5 day break before getting back on the ice with a home and home against the defending Canalta Cup Champion Nipawin Hawks who come to the Whitney Forum on Friday. The Bomber travel to the Cage on Saturday and that will be our next broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

We hit the air with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:15 MB time.
