Bombers Get By Wolves In Shoot Out

It was an old fashioned shoot out at the Whitney Forum on Saturday with the Bombers and Ice Wolves combining for 13 goals in a 7-6 shootout win for the Bombers.

Flin Flon took it to the Wolves 6-1 on Friday and felt pretty good about themselves in the re-match for Hockey Night In The North Saturday back in the Flon.

It was the Wolves who tallied first on Saturday with Connor Smith finding the back of the net for the only goal of the opening period, his 5th against the Maroon and White this season.

The Bombers shook off a bad first period and came out and tied the game just 15 seconds in with Nate Hooper collecting his team leading 15th of the year. That would spark the club as Marchi and Madarash quickly made it 3-1 Flin Flon.

Laronge kept battling when Doell buried a nice shot from the slot to cut the deficit to 3-2. Houle would re-establish the two goal lead when he scored right off the face off   through Merek Pipe's five hole to make it 4-2 Bombers  after two.

It looked like Flin Flon might run away with it, when McKenzie converted a nice pass from Houle to make the score 5-2 early in the third.

Give the Wolves credit as they reeled off three quick goals in just under 3 minutes to tie the game at 5 and stun the Whitney Forum crowd of over 1200 plus.

Daylan Marchi added his second of the night to once again give the Bombers the lead at 6-5, but Laronge answered that with a powerplay goal from Bannister.

The two teams couldn't decide it in the final four minutes of regulation or the extra 5 minutes of Ot, so we would get to see a shoot out.

You could tell the Bombers felt a lot more confident in the shoot out after their 11 round battle with Yorkton a week ago and beat Merek Pipes twice on goals from Hooper and Moretz.

Brenden Newton stopped both Smith and Zambon. Final shots through OT were 51-42 in favour of the Bombers. Laronge was 2 for 5 on the PP, while the Bombers were 0 for 4.

This was a big four point weekend as Flin Flon kept pace with Kindersley and trail the Klippers by 1 point for 8th and home ice advantage in the Survivor Series. The Klippers do have two games in hand. The Bombers also stay 9 points up on Melville with a game in hand.

Flin Flon will now travel to the Cage in Nipawin Tuesday  to take on the hottest team in Western Canada as the Hawks are unbeaten in regulation in their last 28,  and will pose a great challenge for the young Bombers.

We hit the air with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
