Bombers Lose 6th Straight

It was a tough weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers who dropped a pair of 5-2 decisions to the Laronge Ice Wolves and Battleford Stars.

It looked good for Flin Flon Friday night in Laronge when Ethan Daniels scored 36 seconds into the opening period. Laronge responded and looked like a toally different team in powering to just their second win of the season.

Connor Smith scored a late first period goal which seemed to spark the Wolves who are battling all kinds of adversity off the ice. Veterans Luke Lush and Bryce Fiske have both left the team looking for trades.

Manson scored an early powerplay goal in the second and Laronge never looked back, building up a 4-1 lead in the third , before Crystopher Collin would add his team leading 10th of the year to cut the lead to 4-2.

Connor Smith would add his second of the game into the empty net to seel it with just over a minute to go.

The other Laronge goals came from Thunderchief and Brewster. Merek Pipes looked good in his SJHL debut stopping 46 out of 48 shots. The Bombers went with rookie Nik Anderson who stopped 32 out of 37.

It was a tall order for the Bombers who made their way to the Battleford's on Saturday for a re-match of last spring's SJHL final.

Battleford has not lost a game in regulation and have taken over right where they left off last year.

The young Bombers battled hard and had a decent start and were tied 2-2 after 1. After Urbanski opened up the scoring for the Stars, Crystopher Collin continued his hot start by scoring his 11th of the year when he converted on the PP.

The teams would trade goals one more time before the first period came to an end. After Anderson scored at 14:38, Caleb Moretz scored his 5th of the year short handed and gave the Bombers a lift going into the second period.

That is all the offense that Flin Flon could muster as Kolby Mathews shut the door the rest of the way stopping 26 out of 28 Bomber shots.

Reese Jones, who the Bombers just picked up in a trade with Lloydminster played well and made 43 saves. Jones was at the Bombers spring camp. so they were quite familliar with him.

Other Battleford goals came from Urbanski his second of the night, with singles from Young and Gil.

Flin Flon's record will slip to 5-7-0-3 and sit third in the Sherwood Division with 13 points. After 6 straight on the road, the Bombers will enjoy some home cookin when they play a pair of games at the Whitney Forum this weekend when Weyburn and Notre Dame come to town.

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the Saturday broadcast against Notre Dame.
