Game 7 Here We Come

Yes the Flin Flon Bombers are just one win away from going back to the Canalta Cup Final for the second straight year.

The Maroon and White Express tied up the best of 7 SJHL Semi- Final with the Nipawin Hawks after a solid 5-1 win at the Cage last night.

Flin Flon came out flying and scored 3 first period goals from Sinclair(4), Lavallee(5) and Reitmeier(5) to put the Hawks back on their heels after the opening 20 minutes.

Eric Bolden would get a puck past Brenden Newton early in the second, but that is as close as Nipawin would get as Newton closed the door the rest of the way stopping 33 out of 34 shots.

Sinclair would answer that with his second of the contest and fourth of the series, before Kristian St.Onge would seal the deal with an empty netter late in the third period.

The Bombers look like they may have solved Kristian Stead beating him 5 times on 31 shots, with one being an empty netter. Special teams were a big factor with Flin Flon going 3 for 6 on the pp and the Hawks going 0 for 6 including 5 straight man advantages in the second.

Momentum is everything and the Bombers have plenty of that after staving off elimination the past couple of games and will now get a chance to host a game 7 for the first time since their re-entry into the league.

The Bombers have played in 3 game 7's all on the road including  the Championship final in 93, Melfort in the Survivor Series in 2006 and Notre Dame in 2015

It looked like the Bombers were about to bow out after falling down 3 to 1 in this  series, but this veteran group is pulling it together and are getting contibutions from everyone and seem to be getting better every game.

They are doing a lot of the little things well, whether it is Rylee Zimmer winning faceoffs, Nick Shumlanski making an incredible rush down the ice or SJHL Scoring Champion Greyson Reitmeier blocking shots, this team is showing incredible character.

Brenden Newton has been amazing,  only giving up 2 goals in the last 8 periods of work and seems to be in the zone.

Mike Reagan has been  preaching all series that they only had to win one game at the Cage and they  got that accomplished and have earned the right to host game 7 Tomorrow in what should be a capacity crowd at the Whitney Forum.

15 players remain from last year's remarkable run and I really get the impression they don't want to quit playing hockey yet.

No question, tomorrow night will be an electric atmosphere and the Bombers are hoping for 1500 strong to be a part of history as they will host their first ever game 7.

Bring your radios and tell anyone who can't be there to listen to 102.9 CFAR and as we get set for the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and play by play at 7:30.
