Hawks 7 Bombers 3

Well if you got to last night's game late, chances are you might of been a little surprised walking into the building and seeing the Bombers down 5-1 before the game was even 10 minutes old.

That is exactly what happened as the red hot Nipawin Hawks picked up their 14th win in their last 15 games with a solid 7-3 win last night at the Whitney Forum.

The Hawks scored two quick goals from Bly and Grant to chase Zac Robidoux just 6 minutes into the opening period. That seemed to spark the Bombers who cut the deficit to 2-1 on Eric Sinclair's 16th of the year short handed.

Unfortunately that is as close as Flin Flon would get all night as Nipawin reeled off 3 more from Milligan, Baetsen and Harasymuk to take a 5-1 lead after 1. Brenden Newton came in to relieve Robidoux and stopped 2 out of 5 in the first period.

Flin Flon played much better in the second and made it a little more respectible scoring a pair of goals to make it 5-3 after 2. St.Onge picked up his 21st on the powerplay and Nyman broke in all alone and tucked a puck under the right pad of Stead for his 6th of the season.

Nipawin would get a couple of insurance goals in the third from Bly, who scored his second of the night and 17th of the season, while  Milligan also scored his second of the game on the pp to seal it with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Final powerplay chances were Nipawin 3 for 6 and Flin Flon 1 for 5.

Mike Reagan Head Coach and GM of the Bombers had this to say after the game. "I am pretty frustrated with the start of the game, it seemed like everything went against us. We shouldn't be down 5-1 when you outshoot a team 12-11 after the first period. We lose 7-3 and we give up 25 shots , that just shouldn't happen. I don't think we played bad but we really shot our selves in the foot."

The Bombers lose at home for just the second time in regulation this season despite out shooting the Hawks 43-25. Flin Flon still holds on to top spot in the Sherwood at 34-13-2-3, while Nipawin improves to 34-13-2-1 and are now just 2 points behind the Bombers with 2 games in hand.

The re-match is set for this Saturday in Nipawin and the Bombers have taken all 3 meetings at the Cage so far this year and will need to be on top of their game if they are going to win this weekend.
