You Can Help Protect Our Forests

Winter has ended and Manitoba Conservation wants to make sure you are aware of forest fire season. Regional Field Supervisor Brian Barton says this year should be a normal season. He says the forecast right now is for an average season once we finally get there since we’re off to a pretty late start.  He says the long range forecast for the summer is a normal season which means there’ll be 3 to 4 hundred fires in the northern region if that comes true.

Barton says there are two types of fires lightning fires and man made fires.  Manitoba Conservation will be putting on the Smoky the Bear program again in the schools to educate students on forest fires.  If you see a forest fire call the tip line at 1-800-782-0076.
