More money will be spent in the school division for the next school year.

The Flin Flon School Board presented their budget plan at a public meeting last night.  The school division has a total budget of just over 13.7 million dollars for the 2014-15 school year, an increase of 3.2 percent over this year’s budget or almost 426 thousand dollars.

Finance Chair Trish Sattleberger reported the Division received an increase of 471 thousand dollars from the province.  She noted the tax incentive grant was discontinued in 2012 but the province is providing the equivalent funding for 2014 but they are down 37 students this year reducing the northern allowance received.

Among the larger expenses will be supplies and equipment for the new Technical Vocational Institute at Hapnot, window replacements, painting of schools and continuing Queens Park development.

Sattleberger adds the Division will continue to maintain and improve classrooms and facilities while maintaining a 3.21 percent surplus requested by the Minister of Education.

The budget still requires approval by the Board at their March 11th meeting.
