Students are learning more about career choices

Career Trek is offering a program called Children Rising Nor-Man in partnership with the Northern Mining Academy in Flin Flon and other Manitoba organizations and businesses to deliver career development programming.  Their CEO Darrell Cole says children enter the program at ten years old along with their family.  He explains when kids are in school one of the challenges is that when they’re taking their subjects they ask why am I taking this, how is it relevant to my life and he thinks that’s something all kids ask so they are giving them the opportunity to come in and try occupations geared for their age but done in a completely realistic way that allows them to connect their school subjects now with what they could be doing later if they persevere.

A new group of students from across the north began the program at the Mining Academy on Saturday.

Cole adds they are looking for new businesses to partner with and you can find more about the program on their website www.careertrek.ca.
