Client numbers are going up at the Food Bank

The Lord’s Bounty Food Bank came through the Christmas season quite well.  Their Food Distribution Chair Dennis Hydamaka says they did have a considerable increase in demand, in fact in the last quarter of 2013 which is their first quarter they were up 15 percent in the number of people that were fed and 27 percent in the number of hampers they handed out.  He says the families are smaller with more singles and more couples.

Hydamaka adds as far as their intake goes it was similar to last year so they are in pretty good shape right now.

Hydamaka also attended Tuesday nights City Council meeting to express concerns about the affect on low income families in the community from the changes in the fire and police service fees in effect for this year as well as the increased utility rates now that the new water treatment plant is operating.
