This is walk to school week.  Flin Flon School Superintendent Blaine Veitch says it’s an international initiative that encourages students, staff and parents to find a more active way to get to school.

He says around the world cars are becoming the main way of transporting children to and from school so the walk to school initiative is about increasing daily activity, improving our safety, enhancing the environment, promoting social interaction and reducing traffic congestion, pollution and traffic speeds around our schools.  He adds it’s a great initiative and hopefully once people walk for a week they’ll get into the habit and that will be their way to get to school every day.

The week also has a walk to school day which is Wednesday.
