Nuclear waste storage is a community decision

The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce heard from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization as their representatives continue to visit the communities interested in hosting a nuclear waste storage facility including Creighton.  Their Communications Manager Mike Krizanc says you need an informed and willing community to make a decision so the Community Liaison Committee here like in other communities is considering what is the long term vision for this area and this community and how would this impact it, what would be the challenges that it would bring and what are the potential benefits.

Creighton is now in step three of a nine step selection process. By the end of this year the organization will be shortening their list of 21 communities.  Creighton will then know if they will be invited to continue in the process.  If they continue community involvement will expand beyond the Creighton Flin Flon area to include communities along possible transportation routes.
