Flin Flon City Council had proposed removing the cost of fire and police services from property taxes and charging a separate fee starting this year in order to have all tax payers pay a fair share of providing these services.  The bylaw to approve the change is now before the Municipal Board to be discussed at a public hearing in Flin Flon on August 21st.

At a special meeting last night Council reported they have decided there’s not enough time to implement the fee this year so they are withdrawing the 2013 portion of the request so if approved by the Municipal Board it will not come into effect until next year.

They had proposed a per parcel rate of $536.62 this year and $550.40 next year on all rateable property for police and fire services.

At the meeting Council also accepted the Whitney Forum fee schedule with basic fees for per hour ice rental going up by about five dollars
