The location of a nuclear waste storage sight will get clearer

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization has again visited Creighton as the town continues to look into hosting a nuclear waste storage facility.  The Organization’s Communications Manager Mike Krizanc says they are reviewing their list that includes Creighton and other communities who are half way through the third step of the siteing process.  He says the idea is to begin narrowing down the number of communities in their siteing process.  He adds there are 21 communities in Canada that are involved and eventually only one will be selected to host the deep geological repository. He notes they are looking for an informed and willing community, the project will not be imposed on any community and they anticipate it will take them another seven or eight years before they’re at the point where a community might be asked to demonstrate willingness.

Krizanc says they will be reporting to the Community Liaison Committee on what they have learned about Creighton and how this project may impact the community over the long term.
