Keep your children safe around water

This is National Drowning Prevention Week and Jon Sorokowski, Water Safety Coordinator with the Manitoba branch of the Life Saving Society says they are focusing on two messages this year.  He says the Society considers drowning to be a quick and a silent killer so we need parents and caregivers to always stay within arms reach of their young children whenever they’re near water.  He adds the other thing that they’re focusing on this year is boating safety and they want people to choose it and use it, make sure they’re wearing a life jacket whenever they’re in a boat.  He says not wearing a life jacket was a factor in 80 percent of boating deaths in their latest drowning report.

Sorokowski also reminds you lots of things can go wrong when you mix alcohol with boating. You can learn more by going to www.lifesaving.ca
