At last night’s meeting Flin Flon City Council approved a non-resident fee schedule for the Aqua Center effective September 1st. An example of the fees shows an adult resident paying $4.75 general admission while a non-resident will pay 6.75 and for a full facility pass a resident family will pay an annual fee of $357.75 while a non-resident family will pay 507.75. The non-resident fee is calculated as a 42 percent surcharge based on the admission rates. Mayor George Fontaine says this sends a message that this facility is subsidized by Flin Flon tax payers so non-residents will now help share that cost.
Councilor Colleen McKee opposed the use of user fees suggesting Council come up with other ways to structure non-residential fees as user fees may discourage people from using the facility.
