Council will support keeping our present postal service

At the Flin Flon City Council meeting this week Council heard a presentation from representatives of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers local 734 asking them to oppose a plan by Canada Post to close some post offices across the country and open private run franchises.  They said the plan is to have this happen in Flin Flon and if it does it will affect at least 15 families as well as the community as a whole as it would lead to drastic reductions in service.  That would include reduced counter service, reduced home delivery and local mail being sorted in Winnipeg and then returned for delivery.  Council passed a resolution to write to the minister responsible for Canada Post Stephen Fletcher urging him to instruct Canada Post to continue the operation of our public post office.

Mention was also made at the meeting of the decorations and lower flower pots on Main Street and the new copper plaque in Pioneer Square all adding to a feeling of pride in our community.
