As the Habitat 53° Chapter of Habitat for Humanity in Flin Flon works on fund raising, lot clearing and preparations to build a home at 63 Green Street the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has issued research on the value of a Habitat home.  They report research demonstrates that affordable Habitat for Humanity home ownership contributes to families being happier and healthier and enjoying improvement in their children’s well being and school performance.  Of the families surveyed 86 percent report being happier since moving into the Habitat home and 89 percent said their family life has improved.

Habitat’s model provides a hand up not a hand out with low income families paying the full fair market value of their home through a no interest no down payment mortgage that is geared to their income.
