Shop Local Movement

There is a Shop Local movement growing across Canada to support local economies as well as the families behind the storefront.  The first Canadian Shop Local event is being held in Oakville, Ontario this weekend.  Fiona Story from the Yellow Pages Group explains Shop Local really wants to highlight the vital role that small businesses play in our neighborhoods.  She says small businesses are the backbones of our economy, they drive 30 percent of our national GDP and they’re responsible for the employment for close to half of Canada’s overall workforce.  Story adds the role they play in helping grow neighborhoods and creating sustainable communities is pretty crucial.

The Oakville event is a pilot with plans to launch this event across the country later this year.
