Flin Flon Firefighters are Part of a Stairclimb Challenge Supporting Cancer Treatment.

On Sunday May 5th firefighters from Flin FLon will climb the steps of Calgary’s Bow Building.  Led by Fire Chief Chad Cooper firefighters Aaron Simon, James Dauk and Nathan Elliott will climb one of western Canada’s tallest buildings in support of firefighters and citizens living with cancer. Cooper says the annual event is hosted by the Calgary Firefighters Benevolent Society noting the stair climb involves seven hundred and seventy-five vertical feet consisting of 1204 steps in 55 flights of stairs adding the group has been training for the past several months.

Cooper adds the event raises money for Wellspring Calgary which is a non-profit that helps provide care to people diagnosed with cancer and while money is donated directly to their support center they also pass out some of the funds raised to the Firefighters Assistance Charitable society noting 17 presumptive cancers are recognized occupational hazards of the firefighter’s job.
