Economic Development is a Priority in the North.

Manitoba Finance Minister Scott Fielding made a stop in Flin Flon as he travels the province holding budget consultations.  He says he’s hearing northern Manitoba priorities for the budget include fixing the economy to reduce debt servicing costs so money can be spent providing services, growing the economy and economic development. Ensuring that we have a diversified economy and a labor force base he thinks is something he’s heard loud and clear is important to the province and they put kind of a plan together Look North which they think is good for the economic bases but also there are some of the over arching issues that they hear, things like health care where they need to get better results.  He notes when they took office we had some of the longest wait times in the country and so they’ve been able to turn those things around by spending wisely in these certain areas.

We’ll have more later in the week.  You can share your ideas on a budget survey online at www.manitobansmakingchoices.ca.
