This is Fire Prevention Week.  Flin Flon Fire Chief Chad Cooper reminds you the theme this year is Every Second Counts Plan Two Ways Out.  He looks at local fire statistics noting the Flin Flon Fire Department responded to 53 emergency calls, 1 fire fatality and six major structure fires in 2016. He says 57 percent of their emergency calls in 2016 were at night time.

Cooper adds half of home fire deaths result from fires that occur between 11 pm and 7 am.  Three out of five fire deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms and smoking materials are the leading cause of home fire deaths.
