The 28th annual Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge runs through this weekend on Big Athapap.  The Committee’s Mike Wesner says they’ll be lining up the boats tonight.  He says the actual fishing takes place on Saturday and Sunday but the derby starts tonight with a boat parade at about 7 o’clock heading out from the Cranberry Portage Curling Club.  He says fishing starts both mornings at 8 o’clock with a shot gun start and on Saturday you have to be back in the bay past the dock by 4 and on Sunday you have to be back in the bay past the dock by 3.

Wesner adds first prize is again 35 hundred dollars, second 25 hundred and third 2 thousand and those prizes are guaranteed with prizes right down to tenth place.

For information on registering call 204-472-3044 or go Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge on Facebook.  You can register right up to the start of the derby at a cost of 150 dollars for a team of two.
