The City of Flin Flons financial plan for the year was presented at a public meeting last night.

The total budget is just under 13.4 million dollars down from 13.5 million actually spent last year.  The special services levy will increase by 3 percent to $635.04 but Treasurer Glenna Daschuk says with the decrease of .57 mills in the general municipal mill rate a house assessed at 100 thousand dollars will not see an increase or decrease in taxes.  If you include the school levy which is collected by the city for the School Division the mill rate is set at 44.99 for residential property an increase over last year of 1.37 percent and 55.49 for commercial an increase of 1.11 percent. Hudbay’s grant in lieu of taxes is just over 6.3 million dollars with 1.51 million going to the school division. With our drop in population in the last census per capita grants from the province will be reduced.

Some improvements around the community budgeted for include Community Hall washrooms, Whitney Forum lighting, Centoba Park and Tourist Bureau site upgrades, Aqua Center structural study, Willowvale pool assessment, accessibility upgrades required by provincial legislation and landfill expansion.
