Watch Out For Pole Fires.

Manitoba Hydro reminds you this is the time of year for pole fires.  They report warm spring weather brings humidity and when humidity mixes with built up winter grime on power line insulators, electrical short circuits can occur on wooden poles.  In the humidity from dense fog or very light rain or snow the dirt mixes with moisture on the insulators and can create a pathway for electricity to travel from the power line to the wood pole and this short circuit causes a fire. If fire burns through the pole the power lines can drop and present a public safety hazard.  They advise if you see a pole fire or a downed line call Manitoba Hydro at 1-888-MBHYDRO so they can deploy a crew to assess the damage and restore power to affected areas.
