The federal budget was recently presented in Ottawa. Our Member of Parliament Niki Ashton was not impressed. She says this is a budget that’s a lot of talk but no action and certainly very little money to make a difference in terms of other commitments that the government is making. She adds it’s a budget that leaves out the people that need help the most in our country like for indigenous children, there’s no money in the budget to close the gap for funding of First Nations youth that has been identified even by the Human Rights Tribunal and there’s no money to make EI more accessible to Canadians.
The budget included the phasing out of the Canada Savings Bond program, higher taxes on alcohol and tobacco products as well as almost 400 million dollars over three years towards the youth employment strategy.
