The Chair of the Northern Economic Development Strategy Task Force Chuck Davidson was in Flin Flon Friday along with their local rep Dianne Russell listening to people as they develop a Look North Policy. He says the policy will be a plan to promote opportunities in the north something he says people should already be doing. He says as he has been doing his travels around the north some of the worst critics of northern Manitoba are people in northern Manitoba and so how do we change that mindset, how do we change that culture shift for people in northern Manitoba to think we’ve got a lot of things going on here so how do we tell that story to people in other parts of the province and other parts of Canada. He adds there’ll be recommendations like here’s the role that the federal government has to play, here’s the role that the provincial government needs to play and the local government but also here’s the role that business needs to play and just individuals in northern Manitoba.
You can still be part of the Look North Policy process by attending summits in The Pas, Thompson and Churchill in early April or by going to the Look North link on the Manitoba government’s website.
