The Flin Flon Area Red Cross Personal Disaster Assistance Team held an exercise for its twelve volunteers last night.  The exercise involved reacting to a major house fire and a smoke damage scenario leaving two families out in the cold. Their Community Outreach Worker Bev Erickson explained the team’s role in these situations.  She says for local calls from people that have say a house fire and aren’t able to take care of their needs using their own resources they can call the Red Cross and they have a trained team of volunteers here in the Flin Flon area that will come out and do a needs assessment and based on that can provide lodging, food, clothing and hygiene products for those individuals.

Erickson adds they also have an emergency response team locally that joins with others across the province in case of major flooding or wild fire evacuation.  More volunteers are needed for these teams and if you are interested go to their website www.redcross.ca or call 204-982-7330.
