Saskatchewan and Local History Were on Display Yesterday.

The Northern Gateway Museum in Denare Beach held their annual Discovery Day yesterday.  They were joined by the caravan staff from the Saskatchewan Archeological Society.  Their Program Director Katie Burdeyney explains one of their activities is a ceramic reconstruction which out of all the activities they have this one’s the most similar to what its like to actually be an archeologist.  She says what they have is broken ceramics on the table and that’s what they find when they excavate homesteads, all the broken things they left behind and as archeologists they go in and excavate it and they take it all back to the lab and try and put the pieces back together.

They also had rock painting showing how in the past people communicated using only symbols painted on rock and demonstrated an atl-atl spear thrower which was used for very effective hunting for about eight thousand years.

The caravan will be at the Northwest Mounted Police Post Museum in Creighton today from 9 to 5.
