A New Family Was Officially Welcomed to Flin Flon.

  

 

At last nights Flin Flon City Council meeting Mayor Cal Huntley, members of Council and local MLA Tom Lindsey welcomed the new Syrian family to Flin Flon. In welcoming them Mayor Huntley presented them with City of Flin Flon flags.  The parents Omer El Shami and Samira Hamzeh and their sons Wael El Shami and Amir El Shami came to the city supported by the local Northern Refugee Sponsorship Committee.

             

In other business Council approved grants to five local organizations for one thousand dollars each.  They went to the Friendship Center to help defray the costs of National Aboriginal Day, the Flin Flon Trout Festival, the Fireworks Committee, the Manitoba Summer Games rep girl’s volleyball team to help with registration costs at the games in Steinbach and the Citizens on Patrol for posts for their new speed sign.

           

  Mayor and Council congratulated the Trout Festival on a successful weekend including the well attended opening barbeque at Pioneer Square. Mayor Huntley also congratulated the city crews and local residents who have been cleaning up the community with a lot of comments received on how good the community looks.
