The Need for Seniors Housing has Again Come Forward.

Loralyne Murray appeared before Flin Flon City Council at their meeting last night.  She told them the Royal Canadian Legion Housing Board is planning to end the support services for seniors in a group setting program at their Jubilee Residence.  She says she feels this will take away opportunities such as having their meals together, home care services in a group setting and opportunities for socializing and aging with dignity.  Murray says they want younger more independent residents living in their facility.

Councillor Karen McKinnon says she has inquired and was told social events will still be taking place. She was told the Jubilee Residence is not a long term care facility and residents can get home care and apply for Meals on Wheels in their apartments.

Councillor Colleen McKee added this points to the lack of housing and services for seniors in our community.  She says Council has been applying for years for seniors housing and it’s time for the government to listen to the needs of our community.
