Members of the International Association of Machinists Local 1848 working at Hudbay in Flin Flon and Snow Lake held a strike vote yesterday. Union Vice President Blair Sapergia reports 94 percent of their membership turned out to vote and 97 percent voted in favor of strike action. Sapergia says the next step for them is to try to get this management back to the negotiating table so they can actually sit down and come up with a real deal. He says to date they really haven’t done any negotiating, it’s simply been no so hopefully this will turn the light on for them and they can actually take the union seriously.
An earlier information release to their membership had stated the earliest any strike action could take place is April 21st.
